Who Is Hannah Furigay? Mayor Rose Furigay and Daughter In Ateneo Shooting Incident

Hannah Furigay is critically injured from the Ateneo shooting that happened at about 2:55 p.m on Sunday afternoon.

She was supposed to join the graduation ceremony of the School of Law. 

The police have arrested Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, a 38-year-old man, for the shooting. They say the shooter is a resident of Basilan.

Yumol had allegedly resented Furigay for allowing the proliferation of illegal drugs.

The PNP has said in a statement: ‘The PNP (Philippine National Police) immediately responded to the scene of the incident and the gunman was arrested right away. The probe is ongoing and appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect. PNP Lt. Gen’.

‘Vicente Danao Jr. assures everyone that the PNP is on top of the situation and stiffer security measures are being implemented especially in Quezon City and the rest of Metro Manila.’

Ateneo continues working with the police and other authorities to deal with the incident. They have dismissed the graduation program until further notice.

Presently, Hannah is being treated at Quirino Memorial Medical Center. Meanwhile, her mother, Rosita Furigay, died on arrival at World Citi Medical Center.

Hannah Furigay is the daughter of Rosita Furigay, the former mayor of Lamitan City. Her father’s name is Roderick Furigay.

Furigay is a law graduate from Manilla. According to her LinkedIn profile, Furigay studied legal management at the Ateneo De Manila University.

Furigay did her intern in Parabukas. She wrote about how COVID-19 could spell even more danger for small-island and low-lying nations worldwide, as the UNFCCC negotiations and critical global decisions on the climate crisis have been delayed.

Last year, Hannah wrote on the rights of nature but with a different emphasis than Maki Falgui, who also wrote about the same topic.

Furigay’s mom, Rose is an ex-Basilan mayor. She officially relinquished her power to her husband, Roderick, in July 2022.

In 2013, Rose took up the position that her husband had held for nine years, starting in 2004. Before he was elected mayor once more in May, Roderick served as Rose’s deputy mayor for nine years.

Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol is a 38-year-old man from Manila. He is the killer of Rose Furigay.

Yumol is a verified physician. He had made allegations earlier on political color. His social media posts show who he supported.

In July 2020, he was quoted by the Facebook page “SARA DU30 Supporters for 2020,” saying, “I am a doctor, and if Leni Robredo is the basis of the decency of this country, don’t call me decent.”

Last month, he said: “If I were [BBM], I would not pay taxes and then I would go after the properties of the Aquinos and [Jesse] Robredo. Just to annoy them even more.”

He made these posts on Facebook, despite surrounding the Bangsamoro police in 2019 following a string of cybercrime charges.
