Is Mike Maddux Related To Greg Maddux? Relation Between Baseball Coach And Pitcher Expressed

A former professional baseball pitcher and pitching instructor from the United States, Mike Maddux, has been linked with another pitching coach Greg Maddux.

Both were renowned pitchers in Major League Baseball (MLB), and now they are mentoring the upcoming MLB talent.

Greg was a record-setting former Major League Baseball pitcher who coached the University of Nevada, Las Vegas baseball team. The athlete was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on January 8, 2014.

Meanwhile, for fifteen years, Mike played for nine different MLB organizations. He is currently the pitching coach for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Mike Maddux Is Related To Greg Maddux. They are bloodline brothers, and they are both well-known baseball pitchers.

Mike was born on August 27, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio, whereas Greg was born Gregory Alan Maddux on April 14, 1966, in San Angelo, Texas. Mike is five years older than Greg.

After a 15-year extensive league career, Greg’s older brother, Mike Maddux, was appointed pitching coach for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2002. Before making it to the major leagues, he played collegiate baseball for three years at the University of Texas in El Paso.

He and his brother both started playing in the main leagues in 1986. As the first pair of rookie brothers to compete against one another on the pitcher’s mound that year, they created baseball history.

Both Maddux brothers were excellent players, but Greg was a better one. On September 29, 1986, Mike played against his brother Greg, a rookie pitcher for the Chicago Cubs. They were playing for competing teams but always being a shoulder to each other.

In February 2017, Greg uploaded a picture of Mike on his Instagram and captioned him as “the most influential person in my life” with the hashtag #brotherhood.

Who Are Mike Maddux’s Parents?

The 60-year-old pitching coach was born to his parents, Dave and Linda Maddux, in Dayton, Ohio. His father, Dave, served as a United States Air Force soldier.

As a result, he had to move from country to country during his missions. When Mike was a little child, the family relocated to Taiwan. Before that, they lived in San Angelo, North Dakota, California, Indiana, and finally, Las Vegas, Nevada. 

His younger brother Greg was born while they were at San Angelo, but they immediately went to Madrid. Greg spent his entire childhood in Madrid before returning to Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Upon returning to the US, Ralph Meder, a former big league scout, oversaw the training of Maddux and his brother Mike, who later turned pro.
