Oskana Masters began adaptive rowing when she was 13 years old, just before her right leg was amputated. She went on to compete in adapted rowing after that. She raced in the CRASH-B Sprints in 2010, establishing a world record in the process.
She was the first-ever adaptive sculler to participate in the Indianapolis Rowing Club’s “Head of the Eagle” race, taking first place in the women’s open singles category. In 2011, Masters and partner Augusto Perez came in second place in the Adaptive World Champion trials in New Jersey 2011.
Masters and Jones finished third in trunk and arms combined double sculls with just a final time of 4:05.56 on September 2, 2012, at the London Paralympics, earning the first-ever United States medal (bronze). They came in third place, after China (gold) and France (silver), but barely ahead of the United Kingdom.
