Ochai Agbaji, an American basketball player who played for the Kansas Jayhawks of the Big 12 Conference, is grabbing headlines after being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 14th pick in the ongoing NBA Draft 2022.

Ochai Young Agbaji was born on April 20, 2000. He participated in college basketball for the Big 12 Conference’s Kansas Jayhawks.

The athlete won the Big 12 Player of the Year award in 2022 while a senior in college and was selected to the consensus first-team All-America. He was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player after leading the Jayhawks to a national championship (MOP).

NBA writer Drew Packham predicted he would go to the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 14th pick, while CBS Sports predicted the Charlotte Hornets would choose him with the 13th pick.

The Kansas shooting star guard’s family origin traces back to Nigeria. His father, Ologu, is from Nigeria and immigrated to the United States when he was seventeen. He relocated to the United States, where he raised an active family.

At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Ochai’s parents were both basketball players. While Erica was a four-year letter woman from 1991 to 1994, Olofu lettered during the 1991–1992 campaign.

He grew up playing soccer. As a student at Oak Park High School in Kansas City, Missouri, Agbaji gave up playing soccer to concentrate on basketball. According to 247Sports and Rivals, Agbaji was a three-star recruit.

He turned down scholarships from Texas A&M and Wisconsin on February 8, 2018, to play collegiate basketball for Kansas. Agbaji scored 12 points in the championship game, leading Kansas to victory in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, and was awarded the MOP of the tournament.
