Kathy Lester will be the Sacramento Police Department’s 46th Chief. She was formally sworn in in front of the city council in a short ceremony when she started the job on January 1.
The official promotion ceremony for the 27-year veteran of the department will take place on Thursday.

She was a Cordova High School dropout at the outset of her career. Her professional path led her from buffet hostess to custodian to soldier in the United States Army.
She has worked in patrol, traffic, recruiting, internal affairs, criminal intelligence, and as an executive lieutenant in the north patrol command, to mention a few areas of the police.

Sacramento Shooting Victims and Suspect Names
According to Sacramento police, at least six people were murdered and ten more were injured in a shooting in the city’s center.
Rapid gunfire erupted in an area densely crowded with restaurants and clubs in the early hours of Sunday, sending people fleeing across the streets.
When officers arrived at the gunshots, they saw a “very huge throng,” according to police chief Katherine Lester.

In the aftermath of the shootings, no suspect has been apprehended.
The gunshot happened at 2:00 a.m. (09:00 a.m. GMT) around 10th Street and K, near the Golden One Center, where the Sacramento Kings play basketball.
