Basem Altakrity was arrested thirteen years ago at age 23. He has not engaged in any activity that would lead to a second arrest since his release from prison in 2013.
Altakrity served four years in prison alongside his Arselifting ATM partner Mohamed Alameddine.
Following their arrest, Mohamed Alameddine and Basem Altakrity were initially facing up to 14 years in prison for allegedly preparing to blow up an ATM with gas bottles and oxy-acetylene torches.
At around 3.30 a.m. in late February 2019, heavily armed tactical operations officers swooped in just as they were prepared to detonate an ATM at a Sydney Credit Union.

Australian Fitness Coach Basem Altakrity faced four charges including aggravated break and entry with the intent to commit a serious indictable offense and possessing an article with the intent to destroy/damage property in February 2009.
During an appearance in Burwood Local Court after their arrest, Alameddine, 25, and Altakrity, 23, were denied bail due to their charges.
After weeks of surveillance and intelligence work, the arrest was made by armed tactical operations officers. According to Detective Superintendent Greig Newbury, the strike force commander, the two were attempting to detonate a bomb.
The pair had pulled up in front of the cash machine in a BMW with the gas cylinders in the trunk. To overpower them, the officers threw a stun grenade through the back window and promptly arrested them face down on the street.
