What Happened To Durham Laporte? Comedian’s Legacy And Family Go Fund Me Setup

The stand-up comedian Durham Laporte has died due to cardiac arrest. Along with Brandon Michael, Laporte had given several performances. 

The local comedian Durham had started his journey from the rooftop deck of his apartment to a skate park and baseball diamond at the Halifax Common.

Brandon was with him in every keep, and the duo have been keeping busy producing comedy shows around town in some unlikely places. Michael said, “Hopefully, I can find an indoor space that can continue it throughout the winter,” Laporte was busy earlier with several shows.

The late comedian has also blessed his followers with podcasts. Some of his best work are:

Durham Laporte’s sister, Justine, and Jayde have set up a fundraiser. On behalf of Jill Ferguson, Justine is organizing this fundraiser. 

The sisters have notified everyone about the cause stating, “we have updated the goal amount because we reached our first one. Thank you so much for your kind love and support as we try to navigate this world without Durham and figure out how we will honor him. The love and support from everyone have been holding us up as we go through this trauma. Thank you so much for being there for us. We are so grateful.”

According to them, they want the fund to spread kindness, help people and continue to make people feel seen and heard because that’s what Durham did. Laporte made everyone feel like the most important person in the room.

The fundraising campaign has already garnered 112 donations (as of this writing) and is almost towards the end of the desired amount. Out of the $10,000 goal, CAD 9,535 have already been raised. And people are still contributing.

Durham Laporte does not have a Wikipedia page, but different pages chose the comedian to write about him. Laporte was invested in comics since his teen years, and he always wanted to make people laugh in high school.

He said, “I was one of those guys who always liked talking in front of the whole school for events,” he says. “And I’ve always thought I was funny, and sometimes it feels like I am funny, although with stand up sometimes you’ll have a night where you feel like you’re not funny at all.”

Durham has two older sisters- Justine Laporte and Jayda Laporte. Durham died on January 2, 2022, just shy of his 26th birthday. He worked at many camps while growing up and always spread laughter.

Before passing away, Durham opened his own comedy space in Halifax. The sisters, on his behalf, have collected funds to assist one of those camps with a new stage, sound systems, and several other pieces of equipment. 

They further want to give some of the funds to the comedy space their brother opened so they can have an annual comedy show in his name. Along with Justine and Jayda, Durham has a great group of comedian friends who will continue to support his club.
