He is described to a great sports specimen and projected to be one of the early drafts in the NFL.

According to MaxPreps, he has 241 tackles, 134 solos, 23.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, seven interceptions, four forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries in four years on the varsity team.

Not to mention, Yanni contributed to West Lafayette’s 8-2 record in 2020, including a 4-0 record in the Hoosier-West Conference.

Yanni Karlaftis was born to parents Matthew and Amy.

Matthew, who grew up in Greece as an all-around athlete, obtained a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Miami before going on to Purdue University to get his doctorate.

Amy, who grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana, near Purdue, met Matthew while he was a freshman.

In 2014, while on a business trip to Kos to give a speech at an engineering conference, Matthew died of a heart attack. Amy and her children returned to West Lafayette following his death.
