Tommy Armstrong Wife Jaylyn Odermann Was A Soccer Player At UNL

Tommy Armstrong wife Jaylyn Odermann played soccer from high school through college. Jaylyn has a career total of 21 points. 

Jaylyn was born on May 13, 1994, to her mom, Kari Narduzzo, and dad, the late Mike Odermann. She grew up in a big family of three sisters, Camryn, Carly, and Tehryn, and three brothers, Coleton, Caleb, and Kaedyn, in Gretna, Nebraska. 

Odermann started playing soccer at Millard North High School before she joined the Huskers in 2012. By the end of high school, she was regarded as one of the top female defenders in the state.

Despite receiving offers from Creighton and Kansas, Jaylyn enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where she met her future husband. In addition to playing for the Huskers soccer team, she pursued a degree in Communication Studies with a minor in Psychology. 

She was one of the only two players to start all 20 games in her freshman year in 2012. Her defensive team finished the season with three shutouts. 

In her senior year in 2015, she was named the “Primetime Performers Honor Roll of the Week” by CollegeSoccer360. She was honored with the “Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award” in her graduation year and was named a “Big Ten Distinguished Scholar”. 

According to her LinkedIn, throughout her four years of college, she volunteered as a motivational speaker for children, played soccer with homeless and underserved kids, and coached a wheelchair soccer team. 

After college, Odermann has had tons of experience in the job market, from barista to soccer analyst. She didn’t plan on locking away her soccer cleats right after graduation and instead trained to play professionally for year. 

Other than her current job at BTN, her most notable job was for a marketing communication agency, where she worked as a digital producer.

But, her current job as a soccer analyst is what’s most interesting, for Jaylyn and soccer fans alike. Since March 2021, she has been the color commentator on women’s soccer for the network. Her current job makes perfect sense, given Odermann’s years of experience playing soccer, her degree, and friendly personality. 

Tommy Armstong and Jaylyn Odermann started dating in June 2012 and have been together for a decade.

They were both athletes at the University of Nebraska. While they had noticed each other around the school before, their first interaction was when Jaylyn caught herself behind Tommy, to and from her way to class. 

Tommy noticed her and jokingly asked, “What? Are you stalking me?” Tommy officially asked Jaylyn to be his girlfriend on June 12, 2012.

“He reminded me of my Dad and that is something I instantly loved about his personality,” says Jaylyn on her first impression of Armstrong. 

After their initial conversations, the couple found themselves to be remarkably alike. They hadn’t lost their childhood playfulness, loved their families, and experienced some form of childhood tragedy. 

Tommy was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, to his father Tommy Armstrong Sr., and his mother Nadine Armstrong. After the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the family had to relocate to San Antonio, Texas, to live with his extended family. 

Jaylyn Odermann, who also goes by Jaylyn Armstrong after her marriage, lost her father when she was in high school. Mike Odermann, an avid hunter, passed away in an accidental shooting. Since his passing, every time Odermann received a new pair of cleats, she would write his initials on them. 

They were engaged on Christmas Day of 2015. At dinner by the pier, surrounded by teammates, friends, and family, Tommy got down on one knee and gave Jaylyn the most fabulous Christmas present. 

Tommy Armstrong Jr. and Jaylyn Odermann became husband and wife on January 26, 2019. The two athletes exchanged vows at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel in Nebraska. The Best Man was Tommy’s brother Trai Armstrong and the Matron of Honor was Tehryn Vansickle, Jaylyn’s “half-sister by blood, full-sister by love”.

As the couple celebrated their 3rd anniversary in 2022, they announced their pregnancy. “Happy 3-year anniversary to my beautiful wife and to the woman carrying our healthy son!!! Words can’t describe how excited I am for this new chapter we are about to begin!! Love you.” Tommy captioned the Instagram post. 

Tommy and Jaylyn Armstrong son Tatum Michael Armstrong was born on June 2022 and is already a sports fan. 

Jaylyn documented her pregnancy journey on her Instagram at @jaylyn_armstrong. She announced Tatum’s birth in an Instagram post with the caption, “Tatum Michael Armstrong joined the fam at 6:59 pm. 6lbs 15oz, 19.5 inch long, and full of spunk!“

Tommy and Jaylyn have embraced parenthood proudly and often share their progress on social media. As of late, both Jaylyn’s and Tommy’s Instagram feeds contain mostly pictures of young Tatum. Not that we’re complaining because young Tatum is adorable, especially when dressed up as a pizza. 

As of today, Tatum is six months old, but it has been a busy half a year for the toddler. He made his first road trip in August when he went to North Dakota to a wedding and met his great grandparents with his mom. 

The couple is also seen taking their son to watch football, soccer, and baseball games. Being the son of two huge sports fans, it will not be surprising to see him grow up an athlete. 

With the arrival of Tatum, the couple bought a new house to accommodate their child.

With the addition of young Tatum into their lives, the couple is ready to face this new chapter in their lives, and we cannot think of better people to raise a kid than Tommy Armstrong and Jaylyn Odermann.
