Hair Brothers’ Rex Ryan Twin Rob and Jim Ryan: Meet The Siblings

Rob and Rex Ryan are brothers, and even though they are identical twins, Rob is the one with the long hair and the potbelly. They were five minutes apart at birth yet have lived as if an invisible umbilical cord connected them.

Without a doubt, the Ryan brothers’ father, the outspoken Buddy Ryan, who was the famed defensive coordinator of the Super Bowl winner Chicago Bears and later served as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, gave his players a sense of devotion and football savvy.

However, they also acquired traits from their mother Doris, who, according to her kids, could deconstruct Buddy’s aggressive 46 defense just as well as any Ryan.

Before Sunday night’s nationally televised game, Buddy was once again in the spotlight. The twins have enjoyed thinking back on Buddy’s coaching accomplishments and manner. Buddy, who has cancer but is expected to see the game before undergoing surgery later in the week, has conducted scores of interviews over this time to advance the narrative.

Jim, Rex Ryan’s older brother, and Rob, his younger twin brother, are his siblings. When their mother worked at the University of Toronto in Canada, the three Ryan brothers moved in with her.

Rex recalled that in 1977 when they were both 15 years old, he and Rob saw the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team expand. However, hockey was the most popular sport in Canada. “Hockey Night in Canada” was for Rex and his brothers to watch every Wednesday and Saturday night.

Additionally, they picked up the sport of hockey. Jim, Rex’s older brother and a lawyer from St. Louis, Missouri, had been participating in adult league hockey for more than 40 years as of 2011.

Rex and his brother Rob watched baseball and hockey, but they knew before crossing the border that the gridiron was where they belonged.

The Ryan brothers had their fair share of classroom mischief throughout their high school years in Toronto. In his 2011 book, Rex said that he and Rob frequently switched schools, mainly when one twin brother wasn’t prepared for an exam while the other was.

Buddy and Doris Ryan were born on December 13, 1962. Jim, his older brother, and Rob, his younger twin brother, make up his family.

Buddy and Doris Ryan met in college at Oklahoma A&M. (now known as Oklahoma State University). When Rex and Rob were two years old, they divorced in 1964.

Doris Ryan believed she couldn’t stay a coach’s wife any longer. They were on their fifth trip in his spectacular coaching career at the time of her breakup with Buddy. Fortunately, they remained friendly for a long time after their divorce.

Rex Ryan’s father,  Buddy, was the Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator and the brains behind the 46 defense that helped them win Super Bowl XX during the 1985 NFL season, so football was in his blood.

Seventeen years previously, Buddy Ryan had won his first Super Bowl trophy while coaching the defensive line for the New York Jets. In Super Bowl III, the Jets defeated the much fancied Baltimore Colts 16-7 thanks to the heroics of quarterback Joe Namath.

When Ryan was 46 years old, he was named head coach. At that point, he had approximately 22 years of experience as an assistant coach in the college and professional ranks.

Ryan led the Jets to back-to-back trips in the AFC Championship Game in 2009 and 2010, which marked the beginning of his head coaching stint with the team.

After that successful beginning, it was never the same. Until 2016, he put up with the Jets and Buffalo Bills being run by mediocrity. Rex Ryan made memories and headlines that football fans won’t soon forget, even though he hasn’t been an NFL head coach since 2016.

Ryan emphasizes that coaches should generally be open and communicative with the players and management and expect the same behavior in return. Ryan says it’s “useful when figuring out how to motivate someone” to connect with his colleagues.

Rex Ryan’s net worth is $20 million, and he earns a $4 million income each year as the head coach of the American football team.

He was a defensive end for Southwestern Oklahoma University with his brother. 2011 saw his induction into the school’s Hall of Fame. He began his coaching career at Eastern Kentucky as a graduate assistant. After that, he had positions as defensive coordinator at Morehead State and assistant coach at New Mexico Highlands.

He spent two years working for his father’s NFL team, the Arizona Cardinals, before returning to collegiate football to serve as the defensive coordinator for Cincinnati, Oklahoma, and Kansas State.

The NFL’s Baltimore Ravens hired him as their defensive line coach after that, and he eventually rose through the ranks to assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. Rex Ryan has been the New York Jets head coach since 2009.

He is renowned for speaking his mind, and in 2009 and 2010, he led the Jets to the AFC Championship Games. He published his memoirs in 2011 and appeared in the 2012 film That’s My Boy.

Throughout his stay in the Big Apple, Rex Ryan caused many controversies. For instance, in 2013, he ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

He was photographed by local photographers sunbathing in the Bahamas some months later with a brand-new tattoo of his wife Michelle carrying a Mark Sanchez jersey.

In Ryan’s subsequent four seasons in New York, the Jets were never able to win more than eight games annually. During his six-year reign from 2009 to 2014, they made the playoffs twice, winning an average of eight games annually.

Rex Ryan was sacked by the Jets on December 29, 2014, following the team’s miserable 4-12 win-loss record in 2014.
