Joseph A. Buttafuoco was born on March 11, 1956, and is a Long Island car body shop owner who had sexual contact with a child named Amy Fisher. Following that, Fisher shot his wife in the face.
Amy Fisher and Buttafuoco started dating in July 1991, when Fisher drove her car to Buttafuoco’s auto body business in Baldwin, New York. Fisher approached Buttafuoco’s wife, Mary Jo, at their house on May 19, 1992.
When Mary Jo opened the door, Fisher—posing as her own sister Ann Marie—offered a T-shirt with the emblem of Joey’s auto body shop on it as proof of the affair.
The front porch brawl erupted, and when Mary Jo requested Fisher leave and went to walk inside to summon Joey, Fisher struck her in the face with a.25 caliber semiautomatic handgun. When Mary Jo woke up, she recognized Fisher as her attacker.
Buttafuoco became a small celebrity as a result of the extensive coverage of the shooting event.

According to ABC News, Joey is now working on a film about his childhood. Joey was arrested again three years after the 1992 case for soliciting a vice policeman acting as a prostitute.
After admitting guilt to insurance fraud, he was sentenced to a year in prison and five years on probation in March 2004. In 2007, he was also sentenced to three months in prison for unlawfully carrying ammunition.
Joey Buttafuoco was arrested again three years after the attempted murder and underage rape cases, this time for patronizing a vice officer acting as a prostitute. He was punished and sentenced to two years of probation. He was then sentenced to a year in jail in March 2004.
